Renaissance Village is a youth-based community center which believes in preparing our teens for the world through active participation in that world. We believe in a structured environment that allows children to grow as leaders and change-makers. We believe in trauma-informed practices, which put our children and their needs at the forefront of everything we do. It takes a village to raise a child and we, at Renaissance Village, are unwavering in our mission to build the community through the next generation. RV is non-discriminatory and we accept those from all backgrounds, and diversity is very important to us.
The Full Story
As a middle school teacher, Dawn immediately saw the need for structured activities outside of school hours. The school systems needed more support for their students, and the students needed more support for their futures. With this idea, Renaissance Village was born. RV focuses on non-traditional learning to give kids a place they want to be while parents have another trusted outlet to help support their children's development. The goal of RV is to help produce young people with financially-viable futures by teaching them to think outside the box and help discover what they love in life in order to create a financially sustainable future for themselves.
Founder & Executive Director
After years in the classroom, Dawn found a need in the community for a different kind of education for our kids—which is where RV comes in. With a vision to create a safe place for young people to learn, grow, and thrive as adults, you’ll likely find Dawn behind-the-scenes, helping RV leaders to push our mission further.
Assistant Director of Programs
Team Renaissance Village
As someone who has always had an interest in social work and all things creative, Avery discovered their knack for graphic design and passion for teaching through Renaissance Village. As a queer educator, Avery is able to bring community members together through the Rainbow Room and form numerous other connections through our social media and client outreach. You'll probably see them around town as an honorary Pitmanite, but shhh, don't tell anyone Pitman is not their hometown!
